Although I prefer to leave the mechanics of research project design and execution to others I have always endeavoured to encourage research.
Why is research so important? For me the explanation is simple: Research sheds light. It may reveal things we didn’t know before. It may just bring sharper definition to what we think we know already – or it may simply provide us with the factual information we need for funding proposals, for management decisions and publicity.
It also encourages accountability. We do not do research just to find out what needs to be done (as many do) – but more especially to understand better how well we are doing – and what works best.
Research also brings clarity to the situation we face – especially where rapid change is taking place as we face today with new media technologies.
Perhaps the most important aspect is that research provides information that inspires vision. When we set out the facts before us God speaks…
